Or lives were forever changed when we became the parents of a child with a CHD. She was 3 months old when we were told about a baby who had just had open heart surgery and did not have a family that was willing to take care of her. She had been put into the foster system when she was born and the foster family she had been with for the last three months had some family issues and needed to close their home. The agency had searched frantically for placement but they could not find anyone who was willing or able to take care of her. When we heard about it we truly felt like God had placed this baby in front of us for a reason and we decided to accept the placement of Dacy into our home. Immediately we traveled to the hospital and saw a little tiny baby lying in a crib who had just had her second open heart surgery. The moment we laid eyes on her and saw her we knew that she was our child. She was so small and fragile but little did we know how strong and fierce she truly was/is. Dacy is now 4 years old and she is such an amazing blessing to my family. She has had another surgery since we took her home but this girl is so strong and perseverant. “When life tells her that she can’t weather the storm that is coming she simply looks back and responds, ‘I am the storm!” I will participate in this race for her and for all those who are going through the same thing she is.
