I have an incredible passion for being in nature as well as for movement and exercise. The more time I spend exploring movement the more I look to challenge myself with endurance events and long-distance running. I also have a history of mental illness, more specifically depression. Because of this combination, I decided to become an Ambassador Athlete for depression2extinction.
depression2extinction (d2e) is a 501(c)3 non-profit on a mission to eliminate the stigma of depression. We’re active in providing students, teachers, & parents with the tools necessary to better understand their emotions and more easily connect with themselves and others. We believe that through movement, mindfulness, & human connection the world can combat the core issues around mental health.
I have decided to compete in the Sandlot Marathon as a fundraising campaign for depression2extinction and to help raise awareness about mental illness. The Sandlot Marathon is 384 and a half laps around a baseball field in Minnesota in March. I could not think of an event that seemed more “insane,” so it seemed like the perfect way to raise awareness and funds for a cause that I am deeply passionate about.
