Dear friends, family, colleagues, and supportive strangers:
I’ve had a passion for running since 2003, but I never dreamed of completing a marathon, but with a lot of hard work, dedication and 15-weeks of Saturday, long-runs through the National Capitols; I completed the Marine Corps Marathon in 2013 and 2014, “THE PEOPLE’S MARATHON”.
Now fast forward to 2019, I’m 5 years older with a loving girlfriend and beautiful daughter. They’re my new passion but I still “Love to Run”. How much do I love to run? Well, I’ve run at least 1 mile every day for the 167 days as part of the Runners World Run Streak challenge. To be honest, I don’t love running quite this much so now it’s all about the challenge, which actually led me to CYCLE Kids.
Around the May timeframe, I was standing by the water cooler talking to a colleague about work and running. I told them I started a run streak and they started talking about how they’d just run Boston. I joking said you’re not that fast, how did you qualify? Through a charity called CYCLE Kids they replied, I can introduce you if you want.
If you are viewing my campaign page, you probably figured out by now that I was introduced to CYCLE Kids, invited to join the team, and humbly accepted. I am by no means a philanthropist, but I sincerely believe in raising money for a great cause is well worth it, and I get to combine it with running 2020 Boston Marathon.
The 26.2 miles is the easy part - first I need to raise money for CYCLE Kids, an organization dedicated to strengthening the resiliency, and health of children by giving them the fun, and practical skills of riding a bike.
My goal is to raise a minimum of $8,500 by race day, and I hope you will help support me for this great cause. The funds will go directly toward advancing the mission, and goals of CYCLE Kids. Remember: no amount is too small to help a deserving kids in need.
The mission of the CYCLE Kids program is to strengthen the emotional and physical health of children by giving them the skills to lead active and healthy lifestyles, using the fun and practical skill of riding a bike. CYCLE Kids provides schools with bikes, helmets and a curriculum, training for teachers and volunteers, and program assessments. Students are provided with their own textbooks, “The Student and Parent Guide to Biking and Healthy Eating,” designed to be shared with their family.
CYCLE Kids is a national organization with programs in ten states and the Navajo Nation in Arizona, reaching over 3000 children each year, over 28,000 since inception. Since 2004, CYCLE Kids has engaged children in physical activity to address the health and emotional issues facing today’s children. The program is built on the belief that the simple and captivating skill of riding a bike changes lives.
As an Official Charity of the 2020 Boston Marathon, our goal is to raise funds to reach more children living in underserved communities with the CYCLE Kids program. Your donation will give students access to a learning experience that will not only teach them how to ride a bike and how to make healthier eating choices, but will help them build confidence and self-esteem, create supportive relationships, succeed academically, and create a foundation for future success.
