We love to play bikes. We love to help and volunteer when we can. This is us, doing both at the same time. Join us as we help Back Alley Bikes raise money for programs that provide underprivileged youth the opportunity to learn about bicycle mechanics while earning their own bicycle. The skills they learn aren't limited to bicycle repair and maintenance, but extend to other areas of life and provide a structured, safe environment as an alternative to getting into trouble.

Back Alley Bikes is a 501(c)3 community organization, which has served the Cass Corridor community for 20 years. Its continuing mission is to provide cycling education and services with a focus on youth development, sustainable practices and community access.
We work to achieve this mission by offering a variety of educational programs for youth and adults; hosting rides and cycling events; and providing free bicycles to children in the community.
Back Alley Bikes is funded in many ways, including bicycle donations, corporate sponsorship, foundation support and fundraising events like Bike the Blizzard. Its main source of income is its retail shop, The Hub of Detroit. The Hub refurbishes and sells a portion of used bike donations, and provides 100% of the proceeds to benefit Back Alley Bikes programs and operating costs.
Bike the Blizzard annual fundraiser helps us to keep the doors open during the cold weather months for community and quality educational programs like Wrench Learn and Give, Youth Open Shop, Youth Earn-A-Bike, Adult Open Shop, and Spokes For Folks. This, while we prepare for the busy summer months, starting early in the spring with our MIT (Mechanic in Training) program, and getting bikes ready to distribute to kids in the community.
