Since 2010 God has drawn hundreds of new Christians to the Iglesia de Cristo Ayllu (Ayllu Church of Christ) in Cusco, Peru. There are now over 120 meeting regularly on Sundays with local members training to be the future leaders of this vibrant body of the Lord's people.
Planting a large, established church is absolutely vital in the Latin American cultural context, and a huge part of becoming established is securing our own permanent facility so that people in the community will take notice.
There are dozens of documented cases of small, newly-planted mission churches that either met in houses or that worshiped in temporary, rented facilities that have long-since disappeared entirely. A permanent, owned facility is the key to longevity. When we visit the Cusco congregation forty years from now, we want to find a thriving congregation that is planting other congregations, not a church that has long-since disappeared from lack of permanence.
Securing our own church property and building will require time and money and a location that fits the vision of the Cusco church. We’re working in a third-world country where the average person only makes about $250 per month. So our members do not have the financial ability to achieve this project on their own. However, our goal is to have 100% participation from the members of the Cusco church toward this project. That means that each and every one of the members of the Iglesia de Cristo Ayllu has committed to giving sacrificially toward the project until we reach our goal. For months now, they have been dedicating themselves to prayer and fasting just like the first-century church did 2,000 years ago. Our mantra in the congregation right now is that “this building is not the goal; it’s only the beginning.” The building is simply a highly-effective tool to reach the city of Cusco with the Gospel.
Now that we’ve reached this exciting milestone in the Cusco work, we need your help! So, how can you specifically help the Cusco church?
Partner with us, and help the Cusco church achieve this dream by giving a monthly or one-time donation! Your generosity toward this project will assure that lost souls are reached in Cusco, Peru, for generations to come.
