I was diagnosed at the age of 10 with adolescent idopathic scoloisis. I started out wearing a back brace for 14-16 hours a day. By the age of 13 my curve had worsened severely enough that surgery was needed to fix it. I had spinal fusion surgery on November 26, 2019.
During my scoliosis journey I started going to monthly Curvy Girl support group meetings. Curvy Girls is a peer-led support group that allows girls with scoliosis to talk with each other about how scoliosis affects them emotionally and physically. In July of 2019, I became the leader of the Curvy Girls of Iowa support group.
Every other year, girls diagnosed with scoliosis come together for an international convention, where we learn and gather strength from one another. In July 2020, we will meet in Long Island, New York and I am working to raise enough money to cover my convention fees and expenses.
I'm so excited to meet other girls with scoliosis from across the world at convention!
