Hello, we are Curl Power, an all-woman league team in the Traverse City Curling Club. We're asking for your help to build a dedicated curling facility in Traverse City so we can grow this sport within our club and the Grand Traverse region, and beyond!
Curling fever is sweeping the nation (no pun intended!) during these Olympic games, and for good reason: Curling is not only the fastest-growing winter sport in America, it is a unique game with unrivaled opportunities to build relationships in our community. Curl Power has been curling with the Traverse City Curling Club since 2015, where we have not only learned to play and love the sport but more importantly, have developed many close and diverse relationships with members of the community we would never have otherwise met. We treasure these relationships as well as the opportunity to stay busy and healthy through the often dark and cold months of winter in Northern Michigan.
Our club is fundraising for a dedicated ice facility to allow us to continue growing. Currently, we are part of Centre Ice Arena, a fantastic community facility that also serves hockey and figure skating communities. This means our ice time is limited to three nights a week from 7:30-11 PM, where we are full with league play and classes. Each season we also offer Learn to Curl classes to meet the demand of our community, and unfortunately we've outgrown the ice we have available and we worry that with the 2018 PyongChang Olympics bringing even more attention to the sport, we'll be turning more and more people away as we have no more ice to give.
Our club issued a challenge to all teams, to raise awareness of our need for a dedicated curling facility to truly grow this sport in Traverse City, a vision which includes leagues throughout days and evenings, weekdays and weekends, with a chance to serve interest groups such as youth interest, wheelchair curling, veterans, senior citizens, and more - curling is truly an inclusive sport! The challenge is for each team to raise $250 with the team raising the most, a chance at complimentary league fees in Fall 2018. We eagerly accepted this challenge as we believe in the need and share the excitement for a vision where our community has anopportunity to be active and participate in a team sport inclusive of age and ability. We know that both our own networks of friends and family and the local community see the value and share our vision for this, and we are confident enough in your interest in supporting us that we've set our baseline goal four times higher, of $1000.
Your support goes directly to the Traverse City Curling Club (Crowdrise requires us to connect to a 501c3, which TCCC is, registered in Michigan) campaign for "Dedicated Ice" and also helps Curl Power achieve our goal of winning this competition. Our enthusiasm and confidence comes directly from your support of us along the way as friends, athletes, and the quirky enthusiasm that is truly unique to this sport. Please consider donating to our cause right now, as fundraising only goes for a few more weeks.
