Rock Our Curling Club
Admit it: you’re hooked on curling. Yes, that Olympic sport—with the rocks, and the sweeping, and the yelling. So are we! Our club, CurlBerkshires, is currently renting ice time. We have raised more than $200,000 from members to build our own facility. That’s a fantastic effort, but we’re still a little short of what we need to buy the big-ass compressor, machinery and refrigeration mats to make ice. We’re so close! If we can raise $20,000 through Go Fund Me, we can shake out the couch cushions and finish meeting our goal.
Still not sure? See our backstory, and shocking photos, below. Stoned? Then please help us with a donation of $25 or $50—or whatever you’d like. We will display every Go Fund Me donor’s name on our flashy Facebook page and web site (not quite as flashy), and in a lavishly decorated (maybe even gaudy) book in our new club—unless you want us not to. We are a certified nonprofit organization, so Go Fund Me will send you a receipt indicating your donation is tax deductible. Thank you! If we succeed, people from across the Berkshires will be able to curl any day or evening of the week. And we could offer curling to schools, youth groups, colleges, resorts, visitors…and you.
You’re still reading? Okay then: CurlBerkshires is now in its third year. We rent ice at a local hockey rink, but we can only get time on occasional Saturday nights. We’re ready to jump to our own dedicated facility. Half of our 51 members are women and half are men. Ages range from 14 to 80 (truth!). Even on our limited, and sketchy, arena ice, we have held 10 “learn to curl” events open to the public and every one has sold out. Hundreds of people have tried the sport, and a survey indicates many of them would return if we could offer curling during the week. Other clubs that have made this jump have doubled or tripled their membership. Our business plan shows we will be self-sustaining after two years of operation. And with our own ice we could hold tournaments that bring people to town, which would benefit local inns, restaurants and shops. Let’s do this.
We hope you would be willing to help us be successful!
