Why support CTMA?
Canadian Tamil Medical Association (CTMA)

Over the past 25 years, CTMA has embarked on numerous medical and dental humanitarian projects to affected Tamil communities in Canada and Sri Lanka.  CTMA is a registered charitable organization in Canada.

Founded in 1998, CTMA has established local and international outreach for Tamils in need. Since 2010, CTMA has supported organizations such as South Asian Autism Awareness Centre (SAAAC), Canadian Cancer Society as well as Sick Kids Hospital and Markham Stouffville Hospital. In Sri Lanka, CTMA was involved with Flood Relief/rehabilitation efforts in Sri Lanka, development of Mannar Hospital Mental health Unit with CAMH, oral health programs in Jaffna public schools, mental health hospital unit and new dental clinic in Kilinochchi. In 2018, CTMA helped equip an Operating room and ER department at Tellippalai Hospital. This improved patient care by reducing surgery wait times. In 2019, CTMA put forth a Mental health initiative at Scarborough Health Network (SHN) with the addition of a Tamil-speaking Mental health therapist.

Over the past year, CTMA has been championing:

1. Health Advocacy/Promotion: CTMA has participated in over 30 health forums/webinars/media interviews related to COVID-19. This has been well-received by the community, as a professional and trusted source of health information.

2. Improved Access to Health Services during Pandemic: CTMA launched a public COVID healthline with Tamil-speaking Family doctors in April 2020. This telephone service was used by those who did not have a family doctor or were not able to access their doctors. In May 2020, CTMA distributed over 700 reusable masks to those most vulnerable in our community, in order to attend medical appointments safely.

3. Food relief in Sri Lanka: CTMA donated nearly $10,000 to several grass-roots and established organizations and charities to support food relief efforts in the North and East of Sri Lanka.
