To celebrate Mother's Day, we at CrossPurpose are honoring the courageous women in our career and community development programs who are forging their own paths out of poverty to give their children a better life and leave lasting legacies of success.
It's not an easy road - mothers are among the most vulnerable in our society, 38% more likely to experience poverty than men. In 2016, 20.6% of children in Denver lived in poverty, and statistics show that over half of all children in poverty (59.5 percent) live in families headed by women. There are many reasons for these disparities, including lack of affordable childcare, the gender pay gap, segregation into low-paying labor, violence and abuse, and the lack of adequate social safety nets, but the persistent reality for more than 1 in 3 of all female-headed families, even those with full-time jobs, is life in poverty.
But this is only part of the story. Outfitted with tenacious love and determination, mothers are the strongest, most resilient, and resourceful people we know. They work tirelessly and solve problems creatively, motivated by the hope of a brighter future for ther children. Here at CrossPurpose, mothers have the highest rate of success, comprising the largest population of graduates in the most recently completed program year.
The impact of a meaningful career with a sustainable living wage for mothers in our communities is exponential. Investing in the career development of a mother empowers her to lift not just herself, but her whole family out of poverty, effectively breaking the cycle of generational poverty.
Help these incredible women build legacies of love and give to CrossPurpose today. Your donation will help women to be developed personally and professionally, acquiring the specific skills they need to increase their earning capacity and help their families thrive.
