As many of you know, I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease ten years ago (can't believe it has already been ten years). For those who don't know what Crohn's Disease is, it causes chronic inflammation of the gastroinestinal tract, most commonly the lower intestines and colon creating a variety of digestive and general health issues. I have been fortunate to have what would be considered a mild case to this point, but it has impacted my life in many ways since being diagnosed, from dietary restrictions and lower energy levels, to some of the more complicated health issues associated with a flare. It has long been a goal of mine to raise money for Crohn's research and care and this is my first attempt to support a cause that is very near and dear to my life and future.
Since moving to Boston, I've had the pleasure of being under the care of the Doctors, Nurses, Staff, and Researchers of the Brigham and Women's Hospital Crohn's and Colitis Center. This group has been instrumental in helping me manage the disease through mutliple flares and keeping me "on the field", functioning at the highest level through a demanding work-life schedule as I continue to live my dream of working in baseball. Further, the Crohn's and Colitis Center at BWH is among the leaders in Crohn's and Colitis research, working to better understand and treat the disease. The B.A.A 10K road race which partner's with BWH seemed like the perfect opportunity to raise money directly for the Crohn's and Colitis Center which has already impacted my life and the lives of many others with Crohn's and Colitis.
I'm hoping to raise $1,000 by June 23 for doing this run, so please donate whatever you can (no amount is too small) to help me reach this goal! Also, would love to have some running partners for this so if you're in the Boston area and want to join me in doing the race, sign up for the run and let me know so we can run together! You can register to run the race for $65 without having to fundraise at the link below: https://www.baa.org/races/baa-10k/enter/baa-10k-registration
