For my birthday, I am raising funds for my beloved YogaLoka Project. I'm sure many of you have heard me talk about it or have seen me post about this organization on my social media, but you may not know exactly who we are or what we do.
YogaLoka, Inc. is a 501c3 registered nonprofit that provides yoga, meditation, and holistic wellness services to traditionally marginalized and underserved populations, including the homeless and incarcerated, veterans, survivors of domestic violence, those with physical and developmental disabilities, and individuals identifying as LGBTQ+. We believe all humans deserve access to the transformative practice of yoga, regardless of their financial status, living situation, or any physical or mental diagnoses or disabilities. We use a trauma-informed approach, offering services in a safe and supportive way wherever we are called.
Before the Covid-19 pandemic, we were teaching about 15 classes per month at our program sites, along with consistent free and donation-based community classes for all. In this new virtual world, we have 2 weekly yoga classes running for veterans at the HONOR center in Gainesville, a monthly Pride Class for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies, and we are restarting our program at the Grow Hub center for teens with physical and developmental disabilities next month. With our in-person community classes and events temporarily suspended, our income has decreased. We count on the generous support of donors like you to continue connecting communities through Yoga.
