UPDATE: You did it! You helped us reach our $100,000 ($50,000 campaign + $50,000 match) goal to feed 6,000 local families this holiday season!
We're blown away. Thank you. Your generosity means 6,000 local families in need will receive 25,000 pounds of farm-fresh produce to nourish their bodies this winter.
But we aren't done yet.
Due to COVID-19, 1 in 3 San Diego households is facing hunger.
Your contributions are more important than ever before. You have the chance to make an even bigger impact.
We're increasing our goal by $10,000, which means 2,500 additional pounds of fresh produce for 600 more families.
Coastal Roots Farm uses regenerative and sustainable agricultural practices to grow more than 50,000 pounds of food for 30,000 community members who need it most.
Our Organic Food Distribution Program fosters a healthy environment and serves as an access point for fresh, organic, nutrient-dense food for underserved communities.
Because you believe everyone deserves access to good healthy food, give today to nourish your neighbors.
We offer sincere thanks to Syd Belzberg, Burt Family Foundation, Robin and Leo Eisenberg, Frank Financial Advisors, Ann Hunter-Welborn and David Welborn, Pam and John Sanford, and Karen and Jeff Silberman for their generous support, making up the $50,000 match.
About Coastal Roots Farm
Coastal Roots Farm is a nonprofit Jewish community farm and education center where we practice organic farming, share our harvest with those who lack access, deliver unique farm-based educational programs, and foster inclusive spaces for people of all backgrounds to come together to connect, learn, and celebrate in ways that catalyze a more vibrant community.
Farm programs are designed to meaningfully benefit the land and the community, from improving the fertility of the Farm’s soil and supporting biodiverse ecosystems, to making sure low-income families have equal and dignified access to fresh, nutrient-dense foods, and providing quality educational opportunities. We seek to foster a healthier community and a more sustainable environmental future for our region.
The Farm’s Organic Food Distribution Program ensures marginalized, low-income, food-insecure community members receive fresh, nutrient-dense, organic fruits, vegetables, herbs, and protein-rich eggs to nourish their bodies.
We seek to care for our community while also being good stewards of our land and soil. Healthy soils are the foundation of a sustainable food system and a healthy population. Nutritious and high quality food can only be produced from healthy soil.
Priority populations served through our Organic Food Distribution Program:
-Low-income individuals, seniors, and families, especially mothers with young children
-Veterans and low-level enlisted military members and their families
-Elderly, low-income, and homebound survivors of the Holocaust
-Elderly, low-income, and homebound Native American tribal families
-Immigrants and refugees
Since 2014, Coastal Roots Farm has:
-Produced nearly 207,000 pounds of organic fruits, vegetables, herbs, and 51,000 eggs and distributed this food to more than 164,000 community members
-Donated the majority of this food, approximately 70%, at no-cost to more than 138,000 food-insecure individuals
-Diverted over four million pounds of waste from the landfill through our composting operations, offsetting CO2 emissions by an estimated 2,280 metric tons
