The COVID-19 pandemic is disproportionately impacting low-income communities. LA County reports that COVID-19 deaths in lower income communities are 3X that of higher income communities. Nationally, Black and Latinx Americans make up 30% of the population and 54% of all deaths.
The immediate need for direct services and support is great but in order to truly protect these communities, we must offer solutions that change their trajectory.
SoLa I CAN Foundation, NAHCO3 and partners are launching the COVID-19 Retraining and Recovery Fund (CORE) to offer scholarships in healthcare and technology fields, ensuring economic stability in a post-COVID world. The Happy Money team has pledged to match employee donations 100%.
This campaign can give economic opportunity to hundreds of South LA residents and families. It can help ensure that South LA emerges from this trying time with more economic opportunity, mobility and possibility.
