Help us provide essential food supplies to Peruvian communities in distant rural regions of the Andes bordering the cloud rainforest.
As many of you know, Paititi Institute is care taking a 4000 acre reserve in a remote Peruvian region bordering the Manu National Reserve. Surrounding our reserve there are four native communities - Hualla, Ichio, Pukara, and Cuchuyoc with about 215 families in total and up to 10 people in each family. We are reaching out to you and our global community to try and raise funds to provide essential food supplies to all families in these 4 communities during this challenging time.
Peru announced a state of emergency on March 15 with the arrival of Covid19, requiring mandatory quarantine for everyone in the country. All businesses except a very select few deemed essential have been forced to close, transport is restricted without special permits and all residents are required to stay inside their homes. The strictly enforced quarantine has been extended 4 times, currently in place till June 30th and there is no telling how much longer it will continue to be extended.
Our neighboring communities have been especially hard hit during this time. Supply lines have been cut for small farmers to transport their crops and those with jobs are out of work. Being one of the most impoverished regions in Peru, already under stress with the plummet of the local produce and coffee, they are feeling the impact hardest with many of them starving.
This is the time for us to share what we can afford to support those in greatest need. Every little bit helps. Our goal is to provide each family with at least a one month of rations. The communities have asked us for very basic food supplies including Rice, Oil, Lentils, Pasta, Sugar and preserves. This will cost around 200/s Soles per family. With 205 families to supply this brings the food budget to s/41,000 Peruvian Soles ($12,000 USD). If we exceed our goal we will continue to offer supplies as well as support the community to develop greater.
No amount is too small:
$10 Could provide essential food rations for a family for over a week,
$60 Could provide food rations for over a month,
$300 Could provide food rations for up to 5 families for over a month!
Our Peruvial NonProfit Organization, the Paititi Institute for the Preservation of Indiginous Culture and Ecology will be managing the transport and fair distribution of all rations while making detailed records and providing photos of all the receipts and expenses along the way.
Thank you for helping to unite our shared heart and for your generous support., whether financial, moral or helping to share this information <3
