BRING BASIC HYGIENE TO PORTLAND'S HOMELESS — PROTECT OUR CITY FROM COVID-19, RESTORE DIGNITY, AND HELP HOMELESS INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES FIND WORK AND HOUSING!
What is this project?
Your support will bring high quality, affordable hygiene trailers with showers, laundry, and dental hygiene to homeless Portlanders living in the city’s emergency COVID-19 tent communities.
100% of the proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards supporting Portland’s homeless population.
All construction of the hygiene facilities is done by the trainees of Cascadia Cluster’s Houseless Construction Training Program, a vocational training program providing people transitioning out of homelessness with competitive wages, valuable skills for future employment, and a strong, inclusive community.
Who are we trying to help?
Portland’s homeless are among the most vulnerable to COVID-19, and they lack access to basic hygiene facilities.
Providing homeless Portlanders with handwashing, shower, and laundry access will enable our city as a whole to recover better and faster from this pandemic.
Not only will fewer homeless people be at risk of death and serious illness, but that housed Portlanders will be at lower risk from community spread of COVID-19. Your donation will help all Portlanders — both the homeless and the housed.
Why is this project important, and who else is involved?
Portland city government and several nonprofit and business partners have created emergency housing to protect the homeless from COVID-19 and reduce their risk of spreading it to others in the community. Despite their efforts, the city has been unable to provide sufficient access to hygiene facilities for the many thousands of Portlanders living on our streets.
How will my donation make an impact in the long term?
The high quality mobile facilities built with your support will last for years after this crisis. Construction crews staffed by homeless community residents making the transition from street and tent living brings opportunity and dignity to the least fortunate in our city.
What is Cascadia Clusters?
Cascadia Clusters is Portland’s only construction training and affordable housing nonprofit.
We train Portlanders eager to transition out of homelessness and find gainful employment to manufacture affordable, high quality “tiny homes” and other small, portable structures. These tiny structures are then used as private residences, ultra-affordable workforce housing, and community-oriented housing for others transitioning out of homelessness.
