In September of 2019, San Diego Code School, CreatingCodingCareers, and BVISTA set out to create an innovative California registered software apprenticeship program. Our mission is to help traditionally underrepresented people in tech succeed at becoming software engineers. For many Black, Latino, and women the biggest challenges are affordability and accessibility of quality educational options that keep pace with fast-moving tech.
Pitching in to encourage people to have hope, invest in themselves, and strengthening communities is what we are all about. You can help a few deserving folks earn a unique opportunity to focus 100% on learning software engineering hands-on alongside senior software engineers.
Any amount you donate will help us hire and train apprentices to begin their journey as software engineers. Starting in mid-July, Software apprentices will get paid for 12-months of training.
We believe in full transparency: 95% of your tax-deductible donation will go directly to the salaries of apprentices at Creating Code Careers for San Diegans, Inc., a nonprofit fiscally sponsored by Bay Vista Methodist Heights, Inc. Only 5% will be reserved and used for administrative fees (e.g. GoFundMe and accountants).
Here is exactly how your donation helps:
CreatingCodingCareers.org is the employer and will provide a living wage for training. Similar to how carpenters, electricians, or plumbers might learn a trade skill, we want to use apprenticeships to train more people for new collar careers. Apprentices will graduate the program with a year of practical on-the-job experience building enterprise web and mobile applications.
We hope to place 100% of our graduates in permanent roles with local companies by the end of the program. The SDCS instructors for this program have done an amazing job of preparing and placing junior developers. More than 100 previous students now have jobs with companies including RedHat/IBM, Deloitte, Apple, Facebook, Sony, and many more...
Please consider pitching in and helping us launch new careers in software engineering. Without your help, we will be limited to just a handful of candidates. We had over 100 people apply to the Summer 2020 Cohort.
