Dear Friends of EHS and The Westover School,
Last week, The East Harlem School learned the wonderful news that Westover would like to accept a third girl from EHS for next year! We were already feeling so thrilled that they were taking two kids to be freshmen in the fall.
This third student, Corelie, comes from a family who owned a pizza shop that was forced to close due to the COVD-19 pandemic. Like so many of our families, Corelie's is bearing the brunt of the socioeconomic ramifications of this horrible disease. They have gone from having a decent income to having none. Based on the family's pre-COVID financials, Westover is asking them to pay $5,000 per year. In a normal year, Corelie's parents say they could afford this, but they feel that it is not manageable this year. They have told us they can pay $2,500, and so we're seeing if we can help them with the remaining amount.
In these uncertain times, we feel all the more certain that opportunities like this should not be wasted. We are very confident that Corelie will be successful at Westover. She is one of our strongest 8th grade leaders and a kind, hardworking, and good person. The video above highlights Corelie's performance at our Annual Poetry Slam this past fall.
Your donation will go to The East Harlem School and will immediately be given as a one-time grant to Corelie's family.
