Texas 635 is a 501 c 3 non-profit founded in honor of Officer Floyd East Jr., who was killed in the line of duty on October 9, 2017. His widow, Carmen, wanted to do something to pay back all of the love and support received from the Blue Line Family across the nation.
Our research found that between 140 to 160 officers are killed in the line of duty every year and almost double that commit suicide. The numbers this year are much higher, due to the exposure to the Covid virus and other factors. This data was eye opening and heart breaking. Our program Blue's Space was born a year later, after careful research and guidance from a veteran peer support program with great success.
Blue's Space is a non-clinical retreat that is peer driven, with a chaplain and therapist as part of the team for extra support. All of our officers are volunteers and trained in Peer Support, focusing on critical incident stress. Sometimes these incidents affect the job, personal and professional relationships, and life in general.
Our goal is to reaffirm that in life there is hope in the highs and lows. We provide a safe non-judgmental experience that can help alleviate stress and teach methods to help them cope with critical incident stress. Moderated discussions encourage participants to acknowledge and understand that the traumas inside them are shared. These discussions help reduce isolation. Officers often feel frustrated by the lack of understanding from non-law enforcement. Our program encourages open and honest conversation, through peer support. Even after the retreat, our team provides six month support, more if needed.
The Pandemic and other factors affecting our nation have impacted our fundraising efforts and we are desperately looking for other funding sources. Our program is 100 % of no cost to the officer. In addition, we also provide a one-time monetary gift to the surviving spouse or family member of an officer killed in the line of duty to help with immediate needs.
Funding shortages have prevented us from being able to fulfill our missions. Won't you help by making a donation now. Help us continue to provide assistance to those men and women who unselfishly put their lives on the line everyday to protect us from harm. Law Enforcement officers are people too. They have families whom they love, and are involved in their communities, churches, and neighborhoods.
Help us, help them cope with the ugliness seen in their jobs, so they can more efficiently continue to protect and serve our communities. Please donate today! Help spread the word about Texas 635 and it's Blue's Space program. Thank you!!!
