MIAMI MARATHON: JAN 28, 2018
54 runners. 54 Islands. One cause. #54Strong.
On 6 September 2017 Hurricane Irma, the most powerful Atlantic hurricane in recorded history (rated as a category 5+ and around the size of Texas / France), bulldozed its way through the 54 islands of the British Virgin Islands. The direct hit suffered by the BVI caused widespread catastrophic damage to homes, schools, communities, churches, medical centres, businesses, roads and general infrastructure. Less than 2 weeks later, Hurricane Maria (another category 5 storm) passed through the territory and compounded the destruction.
Full recovery is unlikely to be a quick and easy fix for the 30,000 people who call the BVI home.
The BVI is a natural paradise of powdery white sands, crystal clear waters and lush green mountains. Please help us to raise as much funds as possible to make a contribution to the recovery. All funds raised will be donated to Richard Branson's Virgin Unite fund. All of Virgin Unite’s overheads are picked up by Richard Branson, therefore 100% of all amounts raised will go directly to the BVI recovery effort.
We are 6 of the 54 runners representing the BVI in the Miami Marathon (full or half) in January 2018. We all call BVI home and want to give back to a place which has given us so much.
Thank you for your support.
Anton, Tameka, Matthew, Marcus, Andrew and Jasmine.
