The murder of George Floyd has introduced unprecedented levels of retaliation from the masses, against systemic injustice and discriminatory policies that have unduly retained their places in the American sphere. His death serves as a tipping point, a culmination of heavy sentiments against police brutality and racial oppression that have ravaged the communities of Black Americans. His name joins the list of many who have suffered the same fate: Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade -- the list does not end.
This injustice goes beyond the territorial boundaries of the United States. Racial discrimination pervades every aspect of our society, whether apparent or not. Its devastating consequences have sidelined generations after generations of minorities, and now is a moment in history where such calls for change finally go answered.
As such, we stand in solidarity with the movement and hope to both shed light on and raise monetary funds for a cause we believe in.
We are holding a virtual concert consisting of 12 acts by some of the most wonderful and wildly talented performers on Friday, 26 June 2020, 8.00 - 10:00 PM GMT. Through this fundraiser, we wish to direct our support towards a platform which advocates the voices of the unheard, to ensure that this movement is a sustainable expression for the need for change.
All proceeds from this fundraiser will go to the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People (NAACP), whose mission is to ensure the rights of individuals without racial discrimination, whose efforts are indispensable to the Black community.
We hope that you will join us in support of this movement, in support of this important and unifying demand for justice and equality.
