Veterans Memorial Park is 7-acre site in Auburn New York. It was built in 1986, with one field for youth baseball and a venue dedicated to our local veterans.
Currently at the park, you will find a 15-foot monument and a wall of honor with the names of many local deceased veterans on bronze plaques. The park is now committed to revitalizing with; two new fields for girl’s softball and or baseball for youth 12 and under, as well as many more additions around the park, to help honor our local heroes.
Our goal is to install at the entrance to the park a new monument, standing 15 feet tall and 20 feet wide, depicting the raising of the flag on Mt Surabachi on the island of Iwo Jima in World War II, which will be lit at night for all to see from the highway. Also being established, is an area designed to hold a jet aircraft that currently resides at Sampson Air Force Museum in Romulus NY. This plane has already been committed to us by the Navy Dept. We also have plans to dedicate an area of the park in the memory of Robert Striker, the only Cayuga County born Medal of Honor recipient during the Vietnam War.
Our goal is to raise $50,000 for the creation of the new monument. We believe that this monument will be the only one of its size in New York State. Once complete, the entire site is sure to be a tourist attraction for visiting teams during our summer tournament schedule, as well as many others just visiting the area throughout the year.
