Please consider supporting this amazing cause. For the past four years, I have gotten to meet several greyhounds that my coach would very kindly foster until they received permanent homes. They are such gentle, friendly dogs that deserve to be taken care of and adopted after a fascinating racing career. I will be running the Hartford Marathon Foundation's 5k on October 11th as a part of this team fundraising for the Connecticut Greyhound Adoption.
Connecticut Greyhound Adoption (CGA) is a small, volunteer run, organization of people passionate about placing retired racing greyhounds in loving homes.
In November 2018, Florida passed Ammendment 13 which will end all dog racing by the end of 2020. No provisions were made to accommodate the rehoming of thousands of dogs. CGA, along with adoption groups throughout the country, is working tirelessly to help these amazing athletes. Greyhounds, fondly known as 45mph couch potatoes, have very gentle, calm dispositions and make fantastic house pets, therapy dogs, and walking companions.
At a cost of nearly $1000 to rehome each dog ($400 of which is covered by the adoption fees), we are looking to raise funds to continue with our mission.
Each runner on our team, “Athletes Running for Athletes”, has a goal of raising $500 and therefore sponsoring the retirement of one dog. (Of course we welcome and encourage them to help 2, 3, 4 or more dogs!). If you’d like to join our team, we’d love to have you. And if not, please support us in our mission!
