Global Impacts of COVID-19
The impacts of the coronavirus are truly global. Your support for our partners in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is needed now more than ever! Very similar to many places throughout the United States, the DRC is basically shut down. Government mandates require everyone to wear face masks, schools and businesses are closed, and medical clinics are working to accommodate the impact of the virus on the health care system.
Gemena Community Center
As a non-essential service, the GCC has been mandated to close. Event and space reservations have been negatively impact and rent has been essentially nonexistent. COVID-19 has taken a huge financial toll on the GCC resulting in a loss of revenue for the children’s center and the closure has left the employees without compensation.
Judy Medical Clinic
As an essential service, the JMC is open and operating to full capacity. The medical clinic opened doors in February 2020, just in time to serve the community throughout the pandemic.
Sabuli’s Children Center
The SCC is currently serving 97 children with 72 youth residing at SCC. All schooling is currently suspended for the children. The SCC has ensured that all children have been immunized at the JMC and are working to ensure the health and safety of all children during these unprecedented times.
Ubangi Protestant University
As a non-essential service, UPU has been mandated to close. Students are unable to attend classes and professors are unable to teach. Due to a lack of accessibility to internet and technology, digital learning is not feasible. COVID-19 has taken a huge financial toll on UPU resulting in a loss of revenue and the closure has left the staff and faculty without compensation.
