We are all in a crucial moment, and people throughout the globe is facing dire straits. However, we believe we can prevent the same or even a worse crisis from happening in poor countries which are most vulnerable. The attention to Africa is now skyrocketed, as “extremely rapid evolution of pandemic (WHO)” is confirmed. The number of cases which had remained under 50 reached 500+ in two weeks in March. The impact of a potential outbreak of Coronavirus in Africa is indescribable. In particular, there is no time for the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) where 73% of the population live under the poverty line, about 13 million people lack adequate food, 50% do not have access to good quality water, and only 9% have access to the internet. Without aggressive, responsive actions taken by every level of the country, it will face a catastrophe.
The central challenge with which the Congo is faced is getting information to the masses of Congolese. The overwhelming majority of Congolese are not aware of the Coronavirus and what it means to their existence. This initiative led by the Telema youth movement proposes to not only get information to the people but to deliver credible information to a vulnerable population.
We urge you to help us launch COVID19 Education Campaign in large cities throughout DRC, especially the capital, Kinshasa which is larger than New York city with an estimated population of 12 million inhabitants. Our goal is to raise a minimum of $7,500, which makes it possible to launch the education campaign in Kinshasa.
Your contribution will support the following:
- Purchase of gloves and masks for field campaigners
- Printing of educational materials (flyers, signs and banners)
- Transportation costs
- Minutes and data for smart phones
- Training of field campaigners
- Basic needs in the field for campaigners (food, water, sanitizer)
The more you help, the more cities we can launch the campaign in beyond Kinshasa. Help us take action before it becomes too late.
