Aimee became an orphan when both of her parents died of illnesses nine years ago during a pandemic. Because Aimee has had sponsors for school, food, meat, and hygiene, her grandmother has been able to raise her instead of having to send Aimee to an orphanage. Aimee's grandmother lives in a one-room shack with no electricity or water and a yard barely big enough to have a few chickens. When Aimee later lost all but her school sponsor, her grandmother pleaded with us for help, emphasizing that when she dies, Aimee will have no one and nothing if we don’t help.
Aimee's story is much like those of many children for whom we are providing in dire circumstances.
Imagine it—a child living in a context of poverty, disease, and abandonment without parents or means to escape this state. Yet through the help of people like you, such a child can climb out of the hole of abject poverty. Instead of spending childhood begging or searching for scraps of food and safe water, that child can instead go to school and thrive in a family context (often their own extended biological families).
Studies show that one of the best uses of giving dollars is child sponsorship.
East-West’s Adopt-a-Legacy program connects people like you with a child in the over-populated rural town of Kitale, Kenya, an area in which we are also partnering with nationals to evangelize and plant churches. Kitale is a town where most live in poverty in concrete houses without electricity or plumbing, so they can't afford good schooling, proper food, or other basic provisions. Until people like you help.
The 45 children now in our program include orphans, those abandoned, and those with one surviving parent who is terminally ill and can’t work. The kids also include some children of pastors living in poverty. In some cases, pastors have adopted orphaned children we're helping them support, though these pastors themselves have so little.
A board of local Kenyan believers partners with us to oversee the program to vet children in greatest need and administer the program justly. Our goal is to assist as many children as possible by placing them into loving Christian families, rather than an orphanage. We provide education, food, hygiene supplies, and spiritual mentors who will make sure they receive love. Your generosity can create a new legacy for one or more such at-risk children. Donations make a huge difference in the lives of these children, in the families raising them, and in the futures of their communities.
Donations of any amount are appreciated. Here are some Ideas:
$22 will provide food for a month.
$264 for a year.
$48 will provide school for one child for a month (public education is not free).
$35 will provide a school uniform and a pair of shoes for the school year for one child.
$110 will fully sponsor one child for a month that includes school, food, meat, and hygiene supplies. (This also relieves some needs and costs of the family which is raising the child.)
$350 will provide ten uniforms and shoes for kids.
$576 will provide school for one child for a year.
$1,320 will provide a child a loving Christian home environment, education, hygiene supplies, food, and meat for twelve months.
In this time of thanksgiving and gift-giving, please extend your reach of compassion to our at-risk children. Your gift will make an incredible difference in their lives.
