In past days gone by, our native hunters and fishers would come back to the village with food not only for their tiospaye or family but also to share with the extended community. Always making sure that the elders and families with children and no one to provide for them were taken care of reflected the virtue of generosity so widely valued and practiced among native peoples. By ensuring that those in need were cared for, especially in times of scarcity and hardship, everyone benefitted from having a healthy, nourished community that would continue on in wellness for the next generation to live.
The present is no different. In this unprecedented time of uncertainty and need, today’s often heard phrase, “We’re all in this together,” reminds us that it is not just us personally who are facing challenges, but also our many seniors and families who are facing great hardship and need our support. IFH is putting out a SOFAST campaign call - to “Support Our Families and Seniors Together.” The SOFAST plan will offer to our families and seniors in need nutritious food bags to be prepared and delivered by our staff and volunteers.
IFH will repackage all the foods purchased cheaply in bulk into smaller family portions, and then bag according to family size and deliver to their doorsteps. Included in our campaign is the planned purchase of a Food Vacuum Sealer and a new commercial refrigerator to help us prepare the foods. For this part of the campaign we are seeking cash donations to fund our planned purchases. We are also including in our campaign a technology element with an effort to provide computers. modems and routers to those families who do not have them. This is especially important for our young ones to be able to keep up in school as schoolwork frequently requires computer and internet access. If you or anyone you know has up to date working computers, modems or routers that can be donated to IFH for our native families please let us know.
Our SOFAST campaign will launch immediately and can be accessed on CrowdRise and our website. 100 % of the funds raised will be used to support our community. We ask that you share the campaign information widely and hope that you can and will respond to our call with generosity by giving whatever you can to our campaign. We will continue this campaign for as long as needed to ensure continued support of our community so please also check back later for future possible donations. Thank you so much for all the support you can offer which is gratefully appreciated. Best regards,
