Coming Together Again Safely is an effort to provide and encourage those that are hard-to-reach in a rural community with the information necessary to receive their COVID-19 vaccines. 92% of all COVID-19 deaths in the US in June were amongst those that were unvaccinated. Rural communities are lagging behind urban centers (as low as 20% coverage, according to the CDC).
We wish to conduct a postcard campaign as 32% of residents in Nelson County, Virginia lack broadband internet access at home. This and other technological gaps make it difficult to get the information where it needs to go, particularly for the elderly, those with lower household incomes, and migrant worker communities.
Your donation will help provide residents in Nelson County, Virginia with the following critical information:
--date, time, and location of COVID-19 vaccination walk-in clinics
--phone number for the Blue Ridge Health District (BRHD) hotline for help registering or for those with questions about the vaccine
--list of local pharmacies offering the vaccine
--free transportation to vaccination centers through the BRHD and JAUNT initiative
--free in-home vaccinations for those with Medicare
--incentivized vaccine registration through a raffle for prizes for those that report to obtain their vaccine or register
--an invitation to a community cookout to celebrate everyone's hard work over the past year+
In many rural communities, information dissemination is fragmented. By having all of the information in one place, we are helping to improve access and equity in hard-to-reach communities across the county.
This campaign supports people to make healthy decisions for themselves and their neighbors. Anyone who registers for their vaccine through early August can enter a raffle for a drawing of prizes by submitting a GoogleDoc form or in-person at the cookout.
We need your help to reach those that have not yet had the opportunity to get their vaccine. This is ever important as new variants threaten our communities and our ability to move past this crisis. Please support us today! Every bit can and will make a difference.
