Fairways for Warriors is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that was founded in 2010. Our mission is to battle the 22 A Day Veteran Suicides by helping combat veterans with their mental, physical, social and emotional rehabilitation.
The current world health crisis has mandated self isolation which can have a negative effect on our combat veterans who need to be out and involved in group activity. Isolation and depression allows those dangerous triggers to reappear which can cause devastating consequences to our veterans and their families.
Please donate today! We urgently need your help and support to continue our program to provide needed counseling and plan events to promote brotherhood and camaraderie.
Since early March, we have made video conferencing opportunities available for individual and family counseling to all who need it. Additionally, we started our "Battle Buddy" initiative where our members are reaching out to each other to talk and check on each other in case any help is needed.
In short, Fairways for Warriors is much more than golf – we are saving lives, saving marriages and bringing families together to heal as one. We define a combat wounded warrior as anyone who has served in a combat theater whether a physical injury was sustained or not. We have found that the invisible wounds are usually more difficult to overcome. We create a community where the combat veterans and their families know that help is available for all their life challenges - being available 24/7 to talk, meeting the veterans for lunch or coffee, playing golf when they are having a bad day, helping each other with childcare, yard work, or moving. This reflects the same community veterans had in the military.
We now have 1250+ combat veterans on our roster with 4 chapters in Florida, 1 in NC, 1 in VA, 1 in CO and 1 in TX.
Testimonials from our combat veteran members:
Travis, SGT USMC Ret.
"I have been with this organization for over 2 years now and it has dramatically changed my life. Before I joined, I was heavily medicated to combat my PTSD AND depression.
I used to take over 16 different medications to deal with pain, PTSD, depression, anxiety, and other non-said illnesses. I felt depressed and didn't even want to go anywhere. The camaraderie and support that was shown just on my first initial visit was profoundly the brotherhood that I so longed for.
I felt alone and depressed and worthless until I got with the Fairways chapter in San Antonio. As of today, I only take 4 meds a day. I look forward to every meeting we have and cannot wait to hang out with my fellow brothers and sisters."
Smith, SGT, USMC
"I never thought that a combat deployment would change my life, but it did. We saw many things there, and images that are hard to forget. When I got out in 2010, I wasn’t myself. It took me 10 years on multiple medications to get where I am today. At times, I thought my family and friends would benefit without my presence. Those thoughts worsened my depression, and I became a hermit. I couldn’t even go outside and play with my kids. When I met the guys at Fairways, I had a brotherhood again. I actually wanted to get out of my house just to be around them and better myself in the game of golf. But most of all, I got to make my kids happy again. Fairways for Warriors changed my life! Without the support, camaraderie and professional therapy from them I am not sure if I would be here today."
We will be using the proceeds from this campaign to continue our mission and specifically to pay for counseling and to fund sporting events for our combat veteran members and their families.
We are very proud to be designated and listed on the "Top Rated Non-profits List" from Great Non-Profits.org since 2014.
