This will be my second time running the NYC Half and my second time fundraising for a cause while training! In 2016, my friends, family, and coworkers helped me raise over $1,250 for the ALS Association. This time, I'll be running with the Colon Cancer Foundation in honor of my beloved Grandma, Harriet Sturm, who passed away in 2018.
Anyone who knows me knows that my Grandma was my absolute favorite person. She was an avid sports fan, bowling league champ, Jewish youth group leader, bingo and mahjong player, and just about the best grandma a granddaughter could ask for. She was beyond generous with her friends and loved ones. She was my #1 cheerleader, both figuratively and literally, starting on the sidelines of my youth soccer games, through high school cross country and track, and up to college ultimate frisbee. I can't wait to run this race in her honor, and hope you'll consider donating.
The Colon Cancer Foundation has been working in New York City since 2003, raising awareness of colorectal cancer, funding screening programs for the uninsured, and providing much needed funds to young investigators who are committed to finding a cure for colorectal cancer.
More than an estimated 51,000 Americans died from colon cancer this past year. When you join Team Colon Cancer Challenge you join the fight against colorectal cancer and help us spread the word that colorectal cancer is preventable, treatable and beatable with early screening.
The Colon Cancer Foundation launched Team Colon Cancer Challenge in 2010 to:
Encourage colorectal cancer survivors to incorporate exercise into their everyday lives as a way to significantly reduce the rate of recurrence.
Provide a grassroots opportunity for colorectal cancer survivors and their family members to raise awareness and funds for colorectal cancer in their community, and offer those who have lost a loved one to colorectal cancer a positive and effective channel for their rallying cry against colorectal cancer.
Team Colon Cancer Challenge has raised more than $900,000 in support of efforts to raise awareness of colorectal cancer and the importance of early screening, prevention, and research.
