Colleen's BA 5K is an annual charity run/walk established in memory of Colleen Mitchel. Colleen was born with biliary atresia (BA), had a liver transplant at 7 months old and died at 19 years old from complications due to her liver disease, while waiting almost four years on the transplant list. Colleen attended Grace Episcopal Day School in Kensington, Walter Johnson (WJ) High School in Bethesda and the University of Michigan.
Proceeds support programs that educate the community on the dire need for organ donors (https://www.beadonor.org/) and fund groundbreaking research at the Johns Hopkins Pediatric Liver Center into the root cause of biliary atresia (the most serious liver disease of infancy and childhood) and improving outcomes for children living with liver disease and post-transplant.
Please see www.colleensba5k.org for more information. Thanks for helping us reach our goal!
The Colleen Mitchel Memorial Fund is a component fund of the Greater Washington Community Foundation. The Community Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit (federal tax identification 23-7343119), and therefore all contributions are tax deductible.
