Help Collective REMAKE and a broad network of community cooperators build local sustainable, economic independence and freedom through the development of worker cooperatives.
Collective REMAKE: Art, Business, Education, Jobs, News, People, and Recycling for Sustainability is a unique social enterprise that supports the creation of worker-owned businesses and other kinds of cooperatives with people who have been incarcerated or individuals who are marginalized socially and economically due to race, sex, class, gender identity, age or ability.
"A co-operative is an autonomous association of persons united voluntarily to meet their common economic, social, and cultural needs and aspirations through a jointly owned and democratically controlled enterprise." —(International Co-operative Alliance, ICA).
Cooperative businesses and communities offer a real alternative for individuals who have survived years in prison and come home to find there are limited resources; no jobs, no housing and no community.
Collective REMAKE adheres to the cooperative principles and the principles of sustainability promote concern for community, cooperation, democracy, diversity, equity, mutual support, measurement of full impact, no harm, and improved quality of life for future generations.
Collective REMAKE has come a long way in the last three years, and we have alot to celebrate! We completed a second year of implementing cooperative education workshops that received a very positive response. We recently received a second year planning grant to expand our cooperative education and development workshops, seminars, and programming in Los Angeles County. We formed our first democratic Board, we are now incorporated as a non-profit, 501C3, and we are about to move into a new office space in South Los Angeles!
We are also supporting 4 start-up cooperatives: Recycle for JOBs, Worms4YOU, Recycle for Art, and All City.
We need your help to match the recent grant so we can bring the cooperative workshops to more communities and support the development of the cooperitves business ideas generated from the workshops.
