We're excited to announce that starting this March, we're kicking off software coding and game design camps in Nairobi, Kenya!
We're working in partnership with two organizations:
1. a vocational training group focused on underserved polulations-- including Maasai communities-- in Kajiado County, and
2. a Nairobi-based university, who are working to close the achievement gap in students age 16 - 20 and address the large numbers of unemployed young people throughout the country.
Our goal for our March pilot program is to train 20 trainers across both organizations, serve approximately 120 students in two separate week-long coding camps, and establish a roadmap to localize Microsoft Sustainable Development Goal programs to better address the needs and constraints of teaching rural populations.
We'll be using Minecraft as the basis for our March coding camps, and we'll evaluate how to incorporate other tools as we go. This is a pilot project, so we hope to learn a lot about how to create a solid, scalable program to roll out to bigger and bigger audiences in the future.
