Please help support our innovative E-Mentoring Program to prevent our children from falling behind!
Please help support our food distribution efforts during this crisis to ensure that no child goes hungry!
First and foremost, I hope you and your families are safe and well. I am reaching out on behalf of C.O.C.O.A House (Children of Our Community Open to Achievement). This is a non-profit mentorship and tutoring program connecting Union College students with the underserved youth in the Hamilton Hill community in Schenectady, New York.
The organization has been operating for over 20 years now, and it has made a great impact on the underprivileged youth, allowing them to grow academically, socially, and personally. The children have also had a positive effect on Union College students (myself included), teaching us a lot about ourselves and of the world.
We have faced many challenges in our 20 years; however, the one we face today is unlike any other. COVID-19 has drastically affected the educational prospects of elementary school students, especially those who do not have sufficient resources.
Cocoa House has been helping these children catch up to their peers in their academic goals, but this pandemic has the potential to set them further back. To prevent this, we have started a Tele-Tutoring Program in which Union College students can continue to mentor and tutor the Cocoa House children. We are also providing food (salads, fresh produce, and pizza) donated from local restaurants and organizations for these children!
We hope that you can help to make a difference in the lives of our youth. Any and all donations are appreciated! Thank you!
