I am cycling from San Diego, CA to Charleston, SC with the C3 organization to raise money to fight cancer April 28 - May 7, 2021. I ask that you please donate to help or join us as a cyclist or part of the support team.
Challenge to Conquer Cancer (C3) exists to promote the advancement of cancer research and advocacy efforts locally, regionally and nationally through fund-raising fitness events. It is a 501(C)(3) non-profit corporation. The Greenville Hospital System Center for Integrative Oncology and Survivorship (CIOS), The Patrick Dempsey Center, and the Cancer Association of Anderson are the charities of C3. The Greenville Hospital System is very close to our family.
Our Story ...On October 9, 2014, my middle son Zach died from oral cancer at the age of 23. Zach was an athlete, big, and strong - the very last person you would think to get cancer. But when he did it was very serious and we moved fast. Getting a recommendation for a great oral surgeon - we got an appointment with Terry Day in Charleston. The surgery was successful, and Zach started radiation, chemo and speech therapy. He was progressing well - but the next scans showed the cancer in lymph nodes. After another surgery and chemo - the cancer reappeared. We traveled to MD Anderson in Houston, then to Sloan Kettering in NY where Zach got into a great trial. However, this one didn't work for Zach. We went to Dana Farber in Boston for another trial. That didn't work either. Even during this time - Zach was a speaker at the Charleston Hope Lodge benefit. He always felt full of hope while he was there. Our last step in the journey was here in Greenville at the Greenville Hospital System where Dr. Stephenson was willing to do all he could to help save Zach. Our big, strong, loud, happy Zach died October 9, 2014. Today - Our family is fighting cancer to help other families. I am asking for your support through a donation. Please help us and also consider helping us by riding or driving a support vehicle!
