On September 15th 2019, after over 130 hours of training over the past 8 weeks, on 2 different continents in 3 different countries, 4 different states and many sweated through shirts . I will attempt to complete my first ever IronMan triathlon. A combination of 1.2 mile swim, 54 mile bike and a 13.1 mile run. While the distance and race itself is a huge challenge, the journey to the start line has been the one of most significance.
I had a dream of doing some type of epic physical challenge. I learnt how to turn a dream into a long term goal. I learnt how to work towards that goal with passion, by recognizing what my "why " is. I learnt how to over come obstacles, injuries and barriers through positive self talk, a mistake ritual and a growth mindset- I failed harder. I failed forward. I shared my goals with accountability partners, I had role models and training partners. I gathered advisors and supporters. In short - i was able to learn, practice and implement GRIT: passion and perserverance towards a long term goal.
The tools and skills I have needed to mentally and physically embark on this adventure, are ones that are not readily taught, practiced or exposed to most people. They are not taught intentionally and rigorously in schools or in other fields. This is why Strive: How you lead matters is so crucial in preparing our next generation of leaders. More than ever before our communities are craving empathetic leaders, that have the grit to reach their ambitious goals and are valuable team members in all they do. We seek leaders who embody self-efficacy; who believe that through their own motivation and behaviors they can accomplish their goals, asking for help and seeking allies along the way. Skills such as grit, self-awareness, empathy, teamwork, self-efficacy and gratitude are critical building blocks for developing character-driven leaders. In order to gain these skills, Strive provides the tools and space to practice, fail, learn and build a strong leadership foundation.
I am challenging you to join me in my 70.3 journey. HOWEVER- less training (and pain) is required. I am looking for:
100 donations of $7.30
10 donations of $70.3
1 donation of $700.30
and any other level of donation that you are able to give!
