The impacts of COVID-19 have taken quite a toll in Athens, particularly on our local hospitality workforce. With the current guidelines in place that limit gatherings over 10 people, business operations at The Classic Center are certainly no exception. Nearly every event that was scheduled to take place at The Classic Center over the next few weeks has been suspended, limiting the Center's ability to provide work for part-time staff. The Classic Center Cultural Foundation, the supporting non-profit organization for The Classic Center, is in a unique situation to assist during this difficult time. After a loyal supporter of The Classic Center, who is also a member of the Cultural Foundation, offered to donate his refund from a canceled show toward relief for Classic Center part-time workers, the Cultural Foundation Board of Directors was inspired. The board has agreed to match any gifts of this kind, up to $50,000, in an effort to keep Classic Center hourly part-time staff workers with some income when there is very limited revenue coming into the building. Please consider a donation through this fund to aid Classic Center part-time staff members with getting back to work. If you are due a refund from a canceled Classic Center ticketed event, we would be honored if you would consider donating that amount to our part-time workers. Any other private donations from our community are certainly welcome and so very appreciated.
