City Year Detroit, part of the national organization City Year Inc., is singularly committed to keeping students on-track to high school graduation and prepared for college with a targeted intervention model in chronically under-performing/high poverty schools.
City Year Inc. was founded as a service model to harness the power of young idealistic adults in addressing America's most pressing issues. In partnership with Johns Hopkins University, City Year leverages its service model as the human capital solution to the national dropout crisis, and embeds diverse teams of 8-10 highly trained young adult leaders (AmeriCorps or corps members) at partner schools to improve the academic performance - and as a result, the graduation rates - of students who struggle in grades 3-9.
City Year Inc. currently recruits, trains and deploys 3,000 AmeriCorps members to serve more than 196,000 students full-time in more than 290 of the nation's lowest-performing schools in 29 cities, including Detroit, where over 100 AmeriCorps members will serve nearly 7,000 students in 11 schools during the 2019-2020 school year. City Year's holistic service model ensures that students receive the support they need to stay in school and graduate college and career ready in Detroit, across the United States, and abroad.
