During this time of change, it's important that we donate. I want to bring awareness to an organization that is trying to make a difference with our youth in low income housing communities.
As we fight for a better world for them to live in, we must be mindful of the challenges they are facing on a day to day basis processing not only this pandemic but the fight for racial justice.
City of Dreams is a San Francisco based non-profit organization located in Bayview. Their mission is to help the youth living in low income housing communities build a brighter future for themselves through mentorship and youth development.
We are guided by a bold vision: To end the generational cycle of poverty in our city's most challenging neighborhoods.
One of their programs, Ground Zero, works with youth 14+ years of age in group and 1x1 sessions, mentoring, empowering and supporting their interests while educating them on life values. Mentoring these kids has proven kept them off the streets, out of jail and on a path of self improvement.
Each year City of Dreams raises funds to send a few of the youth from the Ground Zero Program to attend the overnight U3Fit Retreat in Nevada City.
The retreat is focused on health, wellness, nutrition, spiritual connection and life coaching. It gathers a group of diverse people, ages 16+ from different backgrounds, religious differences and connects with them through nature. The retreat is filled with activities: meditation, hiking, fitness classes, etc. Interlaced with those activities are coaching sessions designed to empower them as well as bring awareness to the power of language and affirmation.
Please check out this clip from last years retreat:
This year (once pandemic allows) City of Dreams would like to send at least 6 of their Oakdale youth from the Ground Zero Program to this retreat. The retreat is $400/person (includes room and board, meals, snacks, activities, coaching and travel).
Join me in the goal of $2,400 to send these kids on an experience that not only exposes them to the great outdoors but can influence their future positively.
