Thanks to you, citizenship is (still) Hecho en CARECEN. Through classes, workshops, tutoring, mock interviews, translation and interpretation, and voter outreach and education, we have helped over 250 individuals become active US citizens and voters in the past year.
2020 is critical for citizenship and civic participation. Your continued support will ensure that:
-every community member is safely counted in the 2020 census,
-every eligible voter casts their ballot, and
-every permanent resident knows that you are here to support them in the citizenship process.
2020 will get ugly. Our immigrant student base will be a recurring theme in polarizing political campaigns. Their intentions, their integrity, and their right to citizenship and mere existence in this country will be questioned and threatened. The “invisible wall” erected around citizenship keeps getting taller in this administration and at this point now includes:
-changes that may limit access to the fee waiver program,
-a redesign of the citizenship test, and
-confusing public charge rules that limit our students’ ability to reunite their families
Support CARECEN staff, students, and volunteers as we work to tear down that wall and push back against the repression of the American dream.
Thank you for your support!
