My name is Benjamin Saunders.
As time separates us from hard hitting events it is easy to lose sight of the urgency of change. So with that in mind I’m biking around Lake Michigan to continue the momentum building towards fighting systemic racism.
My goal is to raise one dollar for every mile that I bike, and at the end of the ride I’ll make a donation to match my miles effectively doubling our contributions. All proceeds will go to Color of Change, the nation’s largest racial justice organization. Color of Change is focused on education and leading campaigns to empower black communities to challenge cultural, political, and economic injustice through holding leaders accountable, conducting research, and advocating for progressive policies. I chose this national organization because the breadth and record of legitimate change this organization has accomplished is undeniable (you can learn more at http://colorofchange.org). However, local grassroots movements are also incredibly effective at addressing the intricate issues that individual black communities face. So along with Color of Change, I also strongly encourage that you look into the local organizations in your community to help continue this spread of support.
I’m going to do my best to provide daily updates of my ride, and please feel free to follow along and share with friends/family.
*I realize GoFundMe profits off of fundraisers like this so I will calculate the fees incurred by your donations and make a personal contribution of those fees directly to Color of Change
