“Red & yellow, black & white…all are precious in His sight!” Christians teach kids to sing this song because they rightly believe God’s church is multi-ethnic. What do you get when God brings together “brown & yellow, black & white” into a l churchplant? You get “Gospel Church for All Nations”—Gospel CAN!—right here in America’s “First State” (Delaware)! We serve the diverse nationalities of our community via a 65-year-old neighborhood facility exactly halfway between Philadelphia & Baltimore, & halfway between NYC & Washington, DC (right off I-95 in ethnically-diverse Wilmington Manor). Before/after the temporary Covid-related shutdowns, WHO ARE “WE”? This is us! : ~. Becoming followers of Christ through our ministry, this married couple (whose son was also attending our youth activities) decided to close operations weekly on their busiest day (Sundays) as an act of faith…especially when they (legal immigrants) saw opportunity to serve our weekly Community Meal ministry (also on Sundays). When the state (due to Covid) shut down small businesses & restaurants, we supported them prayerfully & practically…until re-openings were allowed. This was especially important when they began experiencing grief over a death in the family (a young mother giving birth; the baby survived but the mom did not). ~. This includes households who have adopted orphans internationally but also are promoting foster-children locally. We are all Delawareans now! Interracial and/or adoptive couples who come in contact with us feel comfortable around us because they see that God’s glorious Gospel CAN transform our hearts, heal our relationships, & enrich our broken world (our motto)! One interracial couple became absolutely crucial in our ministry when Covid-19 also shut down churches in America: They quickly educated us,equipping even our elderly concerning Zoom (for Sunday ministry livestreaming but also for all other days of the week). This has been Gospel “irony” at its finest: While many in our broken world were blaming “ and/or , God was using this interracial couple (Chinese wife and African- American husband)—& their teenage kids—to bring Transformation, healing, & enrich- ment to a captive audience! Another interracial couple (Caucasian husband married to a Mexican legal immigrant) is trying to keep track of the needs for all the Latino’s (legal & illegal) moving into the area. We followed the wife’s suggestion that we should keep paying the Latino-owned cleaning services retained for weekly sanitizing of our little building—even when we were exclusively livestreaming our services with nothing on-site until June 2020. This encouraged her greatly, opening up further opportunities for Latino outreach. This also encouraged her Spanish-speaking father-in-law, the 102-year-old former pastor of the original church who still resides with this couple & is more vulnerable to the virus. ~. Two neighbors (among dozens) here became Christians as young children during the Baby Boom’s final wave in the early 1960’s. How? Thru Vacation Bible School held every summer at this new little neighbor-hood facility. As aging Baby-Boomers who noticed the number of church members remaining in Delaware either was drastically dwindling as people died or moved, one of these two re-located to Pennsylvania and one retired. But when both heard of this Gospel CAN “re-plant” (and the revitalization occurring), they re-started our VBS/summer outreach wherein a new generation of kids are hearing & seeing the Gospel in action! These stories are a sampling of why we have raised among ourselves $500,000 for a needed new addition/facility for present and future ministry (pandemic or no pandemic). Before Covid, we already were too dangerously crowded in our little facility: Offering THREE Worship Service hours & THREE Christian Education hours for all ages every Sun. morning/afternoon. All three are already but must limit (by government mandates) the attendance. When restrictions are lifted, we will have (God willing) already proceeded w/the government- approved Building Project: a community-appropriate facility dedicated to God for enriching all ethnicities [“all nations”] in the Delaware Valley…thru His glorious Gospel! But the banks have tightened lending standards for non-profits during this pandemic, and we’ll need to add another $300,000 to our “brown & yellow, black & white” Building Fund for a construction loan to be approved. CAN YOU HELP—with your gift of any size, or by sharing about “Gospel CAN” with someone who could give financially? THANK YOU!
