Christmas in April (CIA) has been serving St. Mary's County since 1990, rehabilitating the homes of low income homeowners, particularly the elderly and disabled, so that they may live in warmth, safety and independence. Christmas in April is well known for its big construction and repair event that happens one day each April with large teams of volunteers from around our community. But, did you know that Christmas in April work happens year-round? We have a small but awesome group of volunteers and amazingly skilled tradespeople that provide emergency repairs throughout the year for those in our community who need assistance to simply live safely in their homes.
The emergency work we provide year-round is typically supported by the many fundraisers CIA holds throughout the year, however, the pandemic has severely limited those fundraising opportunities. In an effort to continue this good work in our community, we need your help. We have several emergency repair jobs waiting to be accomplished, and have volunteers standing by. We simply need the funds to support the purchase of construction materials.
What will your donation support? Currently, donations will support heating for an elderly woman's home (~$3,500), an immediately needed wheelchair ramp (~$2,000), repairs for a young family's leaking roof (~$1,200), and repairs for a leaking roof and rotting floors for a disabled woman's home (~$800). Unfortunately, the list won't end here. The needs continue, and Christmas in April remains committed to help when and where it can.
