Hey! I am super nervous but excited to announce that I will be running 13.1 miles in the Oaktown Half Marathon on August 11.
My mission is to raise money for Global Glimpse, a nonprofit organization that provides powerful international travel opportunities to high school juniors from diverse backgrounds. Their program builds empathy, agency, and global perspective to empower students to succeed in college and drive change in their local and global communities.
Travel has played an instrumental role in my own personal development and I have been fortunate to have programs throughout high school and college that provided me the opportunity and support to travel to countries such as Japan, Nicaragua, China, India, and the UK that otherwise would have been financially impossible at the time. Seeing how much of an impact those experiences provided me is the key reason I joined the Leadership Council at Global Glimpse (one of the non-profits that helped me back in the day) to help give back to my community.
Since its inception 11 years ago Global Glimpse has spread from San Francisco to New York, Chicago and Western Massachusetts and served over 5,600 students and 500 educators across 67 high schools. More importantly, 50% of the students come from low income backgrounds, 24% are first time international travelers and 41% are first-generation college students.
If travel has played a powerful role in your life, please join me in making it accessible!
