This June, I'm competing in my first ever powerlifting competition! This will be a super-fun deadlifts-only event to raise money for two really great charities: the Ali Forney Center, which supports homeless LGBTQ youth in NYC, and Decolonizing Fitness, a nonprofit that is working toward a more healing fitness culture that welcomes all bodies. Both of these are causes that mean a great deal to me, and are values I've sought out in my own relationship with sports and athletics ever since I started playing roller derby in 2011.
On top of that, deadlifting is one of my favorite things to do, and I was so excited to get up to lifting 235 pounds this winter! My goal for this competition is to lift 290 pounds, which is twice my current body weight, and I'm planning to train 3-4 times a week to make that happen.
While I'm working on that, please donate! I want to raise at least 1 dollar for every pound I end up lifting. Consider chipping in 10 cents per pound ($29), but even $1 will go a long way.
If I make it to $290, I am fully committed to lifting in some kind of costume, facepaint, or other goofball situation. Stay tuned for details, and maybe I'll up the ante if you help me raise even more. <3
