Hey everyone! I’m participating in a virtual race that’s going to take me on a 50km (31 mile) journey around Columbus.
I’ll be honest. There are a whole lot of other things I’d want to do with my time than run 50km in one go... and no part of me is thinking this is going to be anything but a Sufferfest.
But here’s the thing, I’m not running for me. I’m running for the kids who are struggling.
This pandemic has wreaked havoc on the world and we’re all feeling it. There's one particular group that really hasn't been given a whole lot of recognition, though. It's that group of people who can’t go outside and play with their friends, go to their baseball games, go and just have fun.
Yeah, I'm talking about kids.
Kids have had their entire lives completely flipped upside down and it’s time we gave them some love.
So this 50k is not for me. It’s for the kids who aren’t able to be kids because of this "New Normal". It's for the kids who are stuck at home and have had their entire world flipped upside down. It's for the kids that have limited access to the electronics and other items that will help them stay up to date with class work. It's for the kids who are stuck at home with an abusive parent. It's for the kids struggling with the mental struggles of not being able to just be a kid.
I run for them.
All proceeds raised through this run will be dedicated to The Buckeye Ranch - one of the country’s leading providers of emotional, behavioral and mental health services for children and families.
The more we give back to the next generation the more we give the world and humanity a fighting chance at fulfilling its God-given potential.
