Greetings everyone!
I just returned from another absolutely amazing trip to Nicaragua. As always I was touched by both love and care from my fellow team members when it came to serving our patients as well as the patience and gratitude from those we were able to help. I was blown away by the progress that Corner of Love has made in the year since my last visit and excited to hear about the projects they are currently working on and what is to come. Near the end of my visit this time, I was asked if I'd like to return to Nicaragua for a long term internship and lend a hand as Corner of Love moves forward on these next projects. I gave it some thought, but I knew pretty quickly that this would be an amazing opportunity for both me, and of course Corner of Love.
This new position, which I'll start in June is self-supported. Corner of Love is able to provide me with room and board at the Quinta, where they host their mission teams. However, I'll be fundraising and seeking support to cover the rest of my expenses like insurance and loan payments while I'm away. Now of course, I'll be hustling to cover whatever expenses I can but I will also need a lot of help. That's where you come in (hopefully)! I'll need about $700 a month, for ten months, for a grand total of $7000. Though the fundraising will be ongoing until I reach my goal, I'll need to raise about three month's worth -or $2100- before I can deploy to Nica.
Now, all of your donations will go directly to Corner of Love which means they are 100% tax-deductible. So will you help me achieve this goal and give even more to Corner of Love?
Thank you & much love,
Chinyere
Read on if you'd like to know more about Corner of Love and some of their projects! As always Corner of Love is focusing on health care and clean water- two essential factors in improving the over all health and quality of life for the people we serve in San Ramon and the surrounding villages. Along side medical and dental services and clean water initiatives, Corner of Love also provides clothes and shoes to families in need. This is particularly important for school aged children who are not allowed to attend school if they don't have shoes. In recent years, Corner of Love has also built a leadership school as well as a permanent clinic where we can provide a greater variety of services and more serious procedures than what we are able to do in our mobile village clinics. Currently, Corner of Love has a lot of irons in the fire in terms of new projects to expand their impact on the community they serve and as well as some that will enable Corner of Love to better sustain itself in the long term. One of the most exciting project which is just beginning is creating medical records for all of Corner of Love's patients so we can better treat them each time they see us. This is something that we take completely for granted in the US and in many other places around the world. Last year, they also acquired land that will eventually become a dairy farm, allowing them to provide milk to people and families in need, who may suffer from malnutrition. The structure there will also allow them to host more mission teams that will be focused more on education, in addition to those that currently focus on medical and dental care.
These are just a couple of the projects that COL is working on but for even more information, I encourage you to visit corneroflove.org.
