We're raising money to build our Green Schoolyard at Chiloquin Elementary School!
For the past year and a half, a collaborative of local and national partners have been working to make our dream of a new playground at Chiloquin Elementary School a reality. We wanted a safe place where our kids have plenty of spaces to run and play, where teachers could help kids get active and connect to the plants and animals of our region. After almost a year of community engagement, we're finally ready to fundraise to build our dream schoolyard!
The Green Schoolyard will have a covered basketball court, new playground equipment, and an outdoor classroom space. It will be a multi-benefit space, bringing the health benefits of nature to our kids and restoring native habitat. The Schoolyard will also be open to the community as a public park during non-school hours, making this a safe place for kids and families to be active and connect to our land year-round.
This is more than just a playground—it's a community space that represents the hopes and dreams of all the kids, teachers, families and elders who call Chiloquin home. It's a place where we'll be able to socialize with friends and families on the weekend, and play basketball year-round. It's a place where our community can learn more about the Klamath Tribes, who have called this place home since time immemorial. And it's a place where we can ALL come together as the proud, resilient commmunity of Chiloquin.
While our final fundraising goal is almost $1,000,000, our goal for this fundraiser is to raise $12,000 through small donations from our community. If you're interested in making a larger donation, don't hesitate to reach out to us. We'd love to have you involved in our efforts!
About Chiloquin: A Confluence of Gathering
Chiloquin sits at the confluence of the Sprague and Williamson Rivers, and has long been a place of gathering for the Klamath Tribes. Through direct community engagement over the past year, we’ve designed a Green Schoolyard that represents who we are as a community. The Green Schoolyard will carry forward this place’s importance as a space to come together, and ensure that our young people will have a safe space to continue to connect with our land and its rich history.
The Green Schoolyard will instill a pride of place in our children, offer learning opportunities through restored native habitats on the grounds, and provide year-round recreation opportunities that are currently lacking. It will include Klamath cultural elements through art and interpretive signs to educate our young people and community about the Tribes and their connection to this land. And it will be a place where our whole community can come experience the mental and physical health benefits of a green space.
For our fundraiser, we’re also doing a classroom challenge. If you want your donation to count toward a specific grade level, please list that grade in the comments along with your donation! We'll be tracking each classroom's progress over the next month, and the class that raises the most money will get to choose colors for the playground equipment and basketball art—it's gonna be awesome.
Donations are Tax-Deductible!
All donations through the GoFundMe are tax-deductible and will go to Willamette Partnership, a certified 501(c)3 nonprofit. 100% of the funds raised will go directly to the project!
