For those of you who do not know me personally, my name is Samantha and I am a critical care nurse. I work in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in one of New York's largest children’s hospital. During my four years of college, I worked closely with adolescents on the Autism Spectrum. These individuals helped me understand that no matter what challenges we carry, we all have an innate right to live a fun, fulfilling life.
After graduating college, I knew my work with vulnerable populations was not finished. As a PICU nurse, many of my patients present with a variety of chronic illnesses and complex disabilities. When these patients are in my facility, I am fortunate I have the opportunity to be an active member of their healthcare team by providing quality, patient and family centered care. It is important to me that when these patients are discharged, they will continue to receive care that is adapted to their individualized needs to help them navigate through their daily life.
I have combined my passion for running and improving the lives of children by teaming up with the Children's Specialized Hospital Foundation for the 2019 NYC Marathon. Their mission and values resonate heavily with mine because they strive to be the preeminent provider of specialized healthcare services for infants, children and young adults. It is relieving to know that upon discharge, there are other institutions that can continue to provide ethical, patient specific care. My goal is to raise $2,750 for the Children's Specialized Hospital Foundation and help increase awareness of how essential organizations like this are for children whose illnesses and disabilities are too severe to allow them to go home without additional healthcare services. Each donation will go towards both the inpatient and outpatient programs and services provided by the Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation that help bring comfort and enjoyment to these patients and families.
Any contribution to help me reach my goals is greatly appreciated! If you are unable to contribute financially, I simply ask that you remember to be kind to the people you encounter in your day to day lives. Thank you in advanced for your support!
