Since 1904, Children’s Bureau has strengthened families by investing in a child’s most critical years. We have grown to serve over 50,000 at-risk children and parents annually across Southern California through child abuse prevention programs, mental health counseling, foster care, adoption services, and more.
I've been a volunteer and Trustee at Children's Bureau for 12 years. Obviously, I'm very committed to the mission of Children's Bureau and want to help in any way I can, especially during this coronavirus pandemic we're all living through. Our Children's Bureau community is home to thousands of the most vulnerable children and families in Los Angeles. During this time, the agency has continued to work to help that community, even though we haven't been able to host events or have classes inside our Magnolia Place headquarters near downtown Los Angeles. Here are just a few examples of what our dedicated staff has been able to accomplish even in the midst of the pandemic:
Over 12,000 teletherapy sessions
Over 4,000 phone calls to check in on families
Over 1,000 virtual sessions of our family enrichment, education and support groups,
hosting more than 1,200 children and their parents
Over 20 foster care placements
Care packages were sent to kids and teens in a variety of programs. Items mailed to younger kids included A to Z mindfulness coloring pages to develop skills and scavenger hunts to promote compliance in a fun way at home. For teens, some items included 101 positive thinking and affirmation strips, coloring pages, list of indoor activities, mindfulness activities.
We also hosted a Diaper Drive-Through Getaway in which 50,000 diapers were given away.
Children's Bureau's work needs your help to continue. I hope you'll join me in donating to keep this good news coming. Couldn't we all use a little good news right about now?
Thanks for your help and stay safe!
